Former Scripps Mansion site in Woodbridge envisioned for 65 townhomes

A development team is seeking $2.36 million in brownfield tax reimbursements as part of its financing for a 65-unit townhome development in Detroit's Woodbridge neighborhood on a site that once included the Scripps Mansion.

A joint venture between Detroit-based Tekton Development LLC, Detroit-based Civic Companies LLC and Bloomfield Hills-based Robertson Bros. plans the $18.5 million development at 3700 Trumbull St. between Selden and Brainard streets on about 2.63 acres of land.

The Scripps Mansion, built starting in 1879 for the former founder and publisher of The Detroit News, fell victim to arson in the 1980s, according to a Detroit Historic District Commission document.

The development would have 48 one-car garage townhomes with about 1,300 square feet and 16 two-car garage townhomes with about 1,600 square feet.
